Our long and distinguished legacy of delivering results for nearly two decades date back to 2006, when we first commenced practice as “Visatrek UK Immigration Lawyers”. In early 2019, relaunched as “Visatrek UK Immigration Barristers”, we continue to specialise in the provision of expert advice, case preparation, advocacy and representation services in business and personal UK immigration and human rights law cases. Headed by Shabbir Merali and harnessing over 20-years of experience as a sole practitioner in private legal practice, we are trusted by clients as consummate professionals due to our expertise and experience in the field. Each client is provided legal advice and representation from a specialist Public Access Immigration Barrister at a fixed fee coupled with first-class client care. With an approach that is both client-centric and results orientated, our working ethos is underpinned by three essential attributes. Honesty. Professionalism. Integrity.
In his capacity as an accredited specialist Public Access Immigration Barrister with authorisation to conduct litigation, members of the public can now instruct Shabbir directly without the need to instruct a solicitor or other third party. This potentially saves clients from paying for both a solicitor and barrister and further benefits clients as Shabbir is able to deal with every aspect of the case from start to finish including issuing proceedings or applications; giving our address as the address for service of documents; issuing notices of appeal and filing documents at court or serving documents on another party. Our expertise covers the full spectrum of UK immigration law including:
- Business and family related Entry Clearance and Leave to Remain applications and appeals under Tiers 1, 2, 4 and 5 of the Points Based System/Immigration Rules;
- EEA Free Movement applications and appeals pertaining to EEA Family permits; EEA Registration Certificates; EEA Residence Cards and EEA Permanent Residence;
- Asylum, Humanitarian Protection and Discretionary Leave applications and appeals pertaining to claims under the European Convention on Human Rights;
- Applications for Settlement in the UK including for those who bereaved partners and victims of domestic violence;
- Applications for Naturalisation and Registration as a British Citizen;
- Applications for immigration bail and immigration bail hearings before the First-Tier Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber);
- Appeal representation before the First-Tier Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber) and Upper Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber) including appeals against deportation;
- Applications for Administrative Review against refusals of applications under Tiers 1, 2, 4 and 5 of the Points Based System;
- Business applications for a Home Office Sponsor Licence under Tier 2 and 5 of the Points Based System; drafting Certificates of Sponsorship for Tier 2 (General), Tier 2 (Intra-Company Transfer), Tier 2 (Minister of Religion) related occupations, Tier 5 (Temporary Worker – Charity Worker) and Tier 5 (Temporary Worker – Religious Worker).
Our working ethos is underpinned by three essential attributes. Honesty. Professionalism. Integrity. Furthermore, with our cost-effective fixed fee structure for each immigration matter that can be paid over two instalments, you are assured peace of mind with no hidden charges or extras.
Shabbir Merali is a consummate lawyer with over 20-years legal experience specialising in every aspect of an increasingly complex area of law comprising immigration, asylum, nationality, deportation, detention, EU free movement and human rights law. Called to the Bar in October 1998, he has justifiably forged a formidable reputation for his expertise and “legal know-how” and results orientated approach in winning cases whilst maintaining an exceptionally high and consistent success rate.
As a self-motivated lawyer with entrepreneurial and commercial acumen, he impresses with his dedication and passion to every case and is highly regarded for his ability to provide clear, coherent and constructive legal advice and representation in a “no-nonsense” style. A bright, intelligent and charismatic personality, he is acknowledged in his field as an eloquent, tenacious and persuasive advocate and is praised by both judges and peers alike for his attention to detail, incisive analysis, sound and pragmatic judgement and precise and potent legal submissions.
As a confident, tactful and articulate communicator, Shabbir is accustomed to working to tight deadlines in a pressurised legal environment and possesses excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills combined with strong organisational and analytical proficiency with a focus on first-class client care.
Our journey first began in October 1998, when Shabbir commenced private practice at the Bar in Bristol and Leeds respectively. Following 8-years as a practising Barrister with a mixed court-based practice specialising in immigration law, criminal law, employment law, civil law, personal injury and criminal injuries compensation claims, in December 2006, he acquired registration to practice as a “Level 3 Specialist Consultant” regulated immigration advisor under the auspices of the Office of Immigration Services Commissioner (OISC).
In his capacity as a sole practitioner, Shabbir founded “Visatrek UK Immigration Lawyers” (former OISC Registration Number F200600121), stemming from his commitment to offer comprehensive advice and meticulous case preparation in UK immigration applications and appeal representation. During his 13-year tenure as its Principal Lawyer, he advised and represented a vast array of clients from a multitude of different countries and cultural backgrounds, in addition to national and international businesses and charitable organisations, by securing success in acquiring their visas and Sponsor Licences or positively challenging Home Office immigration decisions by applying for Administrative Review or at appeal hearings before the immigration tribunal and higher courts.
In March 2019, Shabbir took the professional decision to return to private practice at the Bar. The objective was simple. The illustrious reputation of Visatrek UK Immigration Lawyers would now be brought to the public under the new name of “Visatrek UK Immigration Barristers”. Clients can now instruct Shabbir directly for their case from start to finish whilst being assured of receiving advice and representation from a seasoned specialist Public Access Immigration Barrister, giving them confidence in our ability to meet their migration related aspirations. As our journey continues amidst one of the most complex, challenging and ever-fluctuating areas of UK law, we have ensured that we continue to adapt and stay well-informed of the latest developments, hence why our success rate has continued to soar and has served to further enhance our well-earned reputation.
We have returned to where it first began, with a genuine belief in the core value which advocates that every individual has the right to high calibre legal advice and representation that converts into the right result. It stems from our unwavering passion and commitment to being independent, objective and specialist legal advisers and court room advocates that fight for justice for every client, with excellence and integrity.

The process for obtaining a Marriage Visa is not easy or straight forward but with Shabbir's hard work and guidance we were able to obtain the Visa on our first application. I would highly recommend Shabbir to anyone requiring the services of a very experienced immigration specialist barrister. - 1/25/2020Anne Strohman
